3 Slot Vertical Gpu Mount

Then, install your graphics card on the PCIe riser slot. See to it that you’ve securely inserted it to the bracket using screws as well. If your case doesn’t have a vertical GPU slot or bracket already, don't worry, you can purchase a vertical GPU support bracket kit for vertically mounting the graphics. Anyone know of a 3 slot vertical GPU mount mod. I bought the Cosmos 700m and it comes with a 2 slot vertical GPU mount. I bought the EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming, 11GB GDDR6, iCX2 which is a 3 slot. If not ill just put the video card like normal. Another case with a 3 slot GPU mount is the Corsair 1000d but that is huge. Dec 26, 2020 The graphics card has to be mounted in the vertical position only, using the PCIe Riser cable, that comes included with the case.

If you have a high-end graphics card with beautiful design and lots of fancy RGB LED lighting on it, then the best way to showcase your graphics card is by mounting it vertically. For this, you either have to get a computer case that natively supports vertical GPU mount or an aftermarket vertical GPU mount kit that can be fitted in a supported case. It is better to get a case that natively supports vertical GPU mounting because you won’t have to go through all the headaches and troubles regarding the compatibility and clearance that can occur when installing an aftermarket GPU mounting kit in any case.

Vertically mounted GPU does look very cool and appealing, but it has a couple of drawbacks too. One of the major drawbacks of vertically mounting the graphics card is that it blocks all the PCIe slots on the motherboard underneath it, and you won’t be able to add any expansion cards. Another drawback is that it may result in less airflow for the graphics card, and the GPU may run relatively hotter compared to when it is mounted horizontally inside the PC case. The main purpose of mounting the GPU vertically is for Aesthetics only, and if you have a beautiful case and high-end graphics card with an attractive design and RGB LEDs on it, then mounting it vertically does make sense. However, one unseen advantage of vertical GPU mount is that if you have a high-end bulky graphics card, then it prevents the graphic card from sagging, and helps reduce the weight on the motherboard PCI-E slots.

Tips for Vertical GPU Mounting

Here are some tips or suggestions that you should follow when mounting your graphics vertically inside your PC case.

  1. Make sure that you have good airflow in the case. For this, you have to install two intake fans at the front and one exhaust fan at the rear.
  2. The graphics card that you are going to mount vertically should be around 2.5-slot width (not more than 2.7-slot) so that it does have sufficient room left between the fans and the side panel to achieve good airflow. It is because if the space is less, then fans have to work harder because of congestion, and they won’t perform well, and thus your graphics card will reach higher temperatures compared to when it is mounted horizontally.

Below is the list of the best computer cases that natively supports vertical GPU mount and come with vertical expansion slots. These PC cases also have good airflow and also offer a great number of features.

Open Frame Design Cases

Here are some of the great-looking open-air design cases that support vertical GPU mounting. These cases are not everyone’s cup of tea because they are not fully covered, and it leads to dust build up on the components. They are also hard to maintain and are not tough enough for everyday use.

PCI-E Riser Cable / Card

Almost all the cases that support vertical GPU bracket/slots do not come with PCI-E Riser Cable, which means if you want to install the graphics card vertically, then you need to buy the PCIe Riser cable additionally. There are two types of PCIe Riser Cards or Cables available, first is the straight or normal 180-degree, and another one is 90-degree angled one. So, you have to be very sure which one fits your case and buy the cable accordingly. Here are some of the good PCIe Riser Cables / Cards that you can buy for your vertical GPU case. All of the below mentioned PCI-Express Riser Cables / Cards support PCI-E 3.0 x16 speed.

Vertical GPU Mount Bracket

If your case does not come with vertical GPU bracket/slots, then you can use Vertical GPU Bracket Kits to vertical mount the graphics card, given that the case is compatible or meets the requirements of the vertical GPU kit. Here are some of these kits that you can buy for vertical graphics card mounting.

Phanteks Vertical GPU Bracket

A universal Vertical GPU Bracket from Phanteks. The kit is made of metal and includes the Vertical GPU Bracket and a 220mm slim-line PCI-E x16 Riser Cable. It requires a case with Open PCI slot Design with up to 7 slots available. Modding or modification might be required in some cases.

Final Words

Vertical GPU mounting may not be the norm but is gaining popularity because it does look great and enhances the visual appearance of your system. It does have some negatives too, but they are not so pronounced and do not affect the overall performance of the system. It is always better to get a computer case that comes with vertical GPU bracket/slots because of convenience, and it avoids the possibility of modding your PC case, which many of the users don’t want to get involved into. Press Release by UskompufDiscuss (7 Comments)
EK, the leading computer cooling solutions provider, releases a vertical GPU mounting bracket designed specifically for cases with closed-off PCI-E expansion slots (with horizontal bars in-between). The EK-Loop Vertical GPU Holder - Shifted, like its previous variant used for open expansion slot cases, uses a patent-pending solution with two ATX motherboard mounting points to additionally secure the graphics card. This unique holder is not just implementing patent-pending technologies but also thicker materials compared to other similar solutions currently on the market.
Displaying your liquid-cooled graphics card or even the standard massive air cooler is something that became more popular over the years. One way to do this is to use the special aftermarket brackets that allow mounting the GPU vertically if the case is not already equipped with vertical PCIe slots. However, the user is often facing issues with how these solutions work since they don't offer enough support, allowing the GPU to move around. Things can be even more challenging when dealing with liquid cooling and installing fittings and tubing to a vertically placed GPU, not to mention trying to ship a PC with a vertically mounted GPU.Fortunately, EK has come up with a unique, patent-pending approach that eliminates all of these problems that can be potentially fatal for expensive hardware. The EK-Loop Vertical GPU Holder - Shifted allows the graphics card to be vertically mounted in any ATX PC case regardless if it has a closed or an open-style rear PCI-E I/O slot layout. The vertical GPU mount is made of 1.5 mm thick, black-coated steel to provide excellent structural rigidity. Additionally, it uses two motherboard screw standoffs to get two additional points of contact and stability, ensuring no sagging and no horizontal movement of the GPU. Before the bracket is attached to the ATX mounting points, two plastic standoffs are placed to protect the motherboard and also allow the installation of the bracket onto motherboards that have intricate and complex aesthetic covers.
The premium-quality gen 3.0 PCI-E riser cable is 200 mm long, allowing for plenty of leeways for the GPU mounting. EK-Loop Vertical GPU Holder - Shifted can be mounted on cases with open or closed-off PCI-E expansion slot designs, with a minimum of 6 free slots. The GPU has to be either a 1- or 2-slot design in terms of the I/O shield. The height of the GPU cooler is irrelevant to the bracket compatibility.
Up until this point, the cases with horizontal bars between PCI-E expansion slots required modding and cutting to fit a vertical GPU bracket. EK-Loop Vertical GPU Holder - Shifted solves this problem. 'Shifted' indicates that the entire bracket is moved forward to allow additional space for the display cable to be plugged in. Each Shifted version will be delivered with a special angled 1.8-meter long DisplayPort cable that is DP 1.4 compatible.
Availability and Pricing
The EK-Loop Vertical GPU Holder - Shifted is made in Slovenia, Europe, and is available for order through the EK Webshop and Partner Reseller Network.
